What a Magical Time…

We gathered outside Aston Clinton Your Cafe in the Park to sing, dance and take photos together, and we loved every minute. 

Hundreds of families attended to see 8 of their favourite fairytale characters, enjoy some delicious treats from the cafe and dance in the sunshine!

We played party games, led the children in dances to some iconic songs, and had live singing performances from our fabulous entertainers Anna, Christina and Lucy. 

It was so wonderful to see so many people. We even saw some familiar faces whose birthday parties we had previously attended! It was a real treat to see their ongoing support of our business. 

There was a fancy dress competition to win one of our bespoke Snow Princess tiaras. It was a hard choice to pick the winners, as there were so many fabulous Princesses, Superheroes, Unicorns and even a Dinosaur too!

Meet-and-Greets 

We then hosted meet-and-greets across the green where little ones could get photos with their favourite fairytale characters, giving them that special one-on-one time and the chance to get a photo to keep forever.

A lot of children came dressed as their Princess idols, and the matching outfit photos will always melt our hearts!

Chaz at Aston Clinton Park made some gorgeous cupcakes, a treat truly fit for any Princess or Superhero (and we can’t forget about the grown-ups who enjoyed them too!)

A Diary of Sprinkles the Elf

You could say I always had big dreams and after lots of Elf and safety training, I get to live out those dreams. Every child has special childhood memories of visiting Santa’s Grotto and now I am part of that amazing experience.

Every December I become ‘Sprinkles the Elf’ and head to Alexandra Palace to chat all things Christmas with little ones and spread lots of festive joy! 

My day starts with parking the reindeers safely on the roof, before doing a thorough inspection to check the presents are ready and the trees are not misbehaving. Next, it’s time to open the grotto for the day so that the fun can begin.

The work of an elf is to provide magic and joy to the children waiting in line, standing at the entrance of the grotto and having a nice chat with them before they meet the big man himself! 

I love asking the children what they want for Christmas, and seeing the parents’ faces when they say something that wasn’t originally on their list! (luckily Amazon do same day deliveries these days!)

One of my favourite questions to ask the little ones is whether their adults made the Nice or Naughty list (spoiler alert, most of the time they haven’t passed the essential criteria for the Nice list!) 

They tell me all about the mince pies and milk they’re going to leave out for Santa, and of course I remind them to leave something out for the elves too. Elves love a nice chocolate selection, in case you didn’t know.

Then it’s time for them to go meet Santa! I’ll never tire of seeing children’s faces light up as they go inside, watching them experience the magic and wonder of Christmas never gets old! 

After a lovely day of speaking to hundreds of children and their families, and receiving some lovely presents (I once got a drawing of a dog in a Santa hat!); it’s time for me to head back to the North Pole. I hang up my elf hat for the night and dream of gingerbread houses and Christmas lights, ready to do it all again the next day!

We recommend that you don’t put the pinata up until you’re ready to start the game, as kids won’t be able to control their urge to mess with it. If a huge, colourful donkey appeared in your room, you’d probably get curious too, right? 

Form an orderly line 

An adult should instruct the children to form a straight line, a safe space away from the pinata and ideally get them to sit down while they await their turn. This will help to avoid them getting into the path of a wayward stick (and leaving the party with more than a party bag!) 

Create a line which they need to stay behind until it is their turn and explain that they have to wait until the last person has placed the stick on the floor and returned to the back of the line before it is their turn. 

Smack and whack until it cracks! 
 

Now it’s time for the fun part. Let each child take it in turns to have a go at whacking the pinata a couple of times. It generally takes 30+ whacks to smash the pinata and for the sweets to be scattered onto the floor. However, if it goes on for longer, you might want to weaken the pinata with a strategic snip with the scissors. Nobody wants to miss the rest of the party games, after all! 

Plan for the unexpected 
 

As you’ll know, when it comes to planning games with excited kids, there’s a good chance that things won’t always go as planned. In an ideal scenario, when the pinata breaks, each child gets their fair share of the goodies. The reality is that some kids might plunder the lot before everyone else gets close to the goodies haul. So, as well as having your negotiation tactics at the ready, we recommend that you keep a good amount of goodies to the side for the kids that are not as quick off the mark or are a bit shy.
